Living on the county border down in Somerset has many advantages, one of them being that local artists open up their studios and showcase their art. This past weekend I visited some venues taking part in the Dorset Art Weeks.
Last September I blogged about the Somerset Art Weeks so it was nice to see what neighbouring Dorset had on offer!
During my search I happened upon an exhibition of work by ROUWEN & REEVE at the Long Barn just outside Dorchester. I was made to feel so welcome, and despite most likely having had to talk through his work many times over these past two weeks, Doug Reeve spoke about his work with an enthusiasm and passion that was so engaging. It really was refreshing!
Doug, along with fellow artist Bev Rouwen, introduce paintings, prints and ceramics that work together, creating a harmonious synergy that you rarely see working so well within a range of mediums so seamlessly. Their pieces are well thought out, and the relationships between the varying materials, although subtle, were extremely effective. But don’t just listen to me, see for yourself…
If you find yourself in the area, get in touch to find out if they’re exhibiting because their work is well worth a visit! All links below…
